PREFACE

This book is composed of chapters from The Collected Works of Watchman Nee, volume 62, and previously unpublished material. The messages were compiled from notes taken by Brother K. H. Weigh and Sister L. I. Weigh in Hong Kong in February and March 1950. Except for some adjustment in sentence structure, the material is presented as found in the manuscripts. Most of the chapters in this section have been revised based on a review of the original manuscripts.

Between February 2 and March 11, 1950, Brother Watchman Nee and Brother Witness Lee were in Hong Kong conducting service meetings and conferences and having private fellowship together. This section includes only the meetings in which Witness Lee spoke. A few chapters contain speaking by both Watchman Nee and Witness Lee if their speaking occurred in the same meeting. Watchman Nee arrived in Hong Kong in January 1950 and returned to China on March 12. Witness Lee arrived in Hong Kong on February 16 and left for Taiwan on April 1. During their stay these two brothers rendered much help to the church in Hong Kong. Concerning this period of time, Brother K. H. Weigh remarked, “In the past it had been a rare occurrence for these two brothers to visit the same church at the same time. Their ministry issued in a great revival in the church in Hong Kong. Previously, there had been about three hundred in the meetings. As a result of the revival, the number increased to between two and three thousand. There was a special blessing upon the church in Hong Kong.”

The content of these messages includes handing over oneself for the preaching of the gospel, release from the bondage of money, the whole Body rising up to serve, spiritual ministry, and arrangements concerning various aspects of church service.

The chapter numbers have been adjusted. Chapters of a similar nature are grouped into four parts: volume 1 contains The Vision of Service and The Way of Life, and volume 2 contains Leadings in Service and Talks. In addition to the chapters published in volume 62 of The Collected Works of Watchman Nee, twenty new chapters of Witness Lee's speaking have been added.

These messages were released at a time when Watchman Nee's ministry was in its mature stage; thus, these chapters were previously published with the title Matured Leadings in the Lord's Recovery. This book, which focuses on the speaking of Witness Lee, has been named The Recovery of the Church according to the Pattern on the Mountain.
